How Radiation Therapy Helped Improve My Prostate Cancer

My hometown of Burdwan is 65 km from Kolkata. Every workday for 8 weeks, I drove there and back for radiation therapy sessions. In 2019, I was looking forward to a long future with my family and friends, as well as a continuous, active presence in our business community. However, things changed when I started experiencing frequent night-time urination and burning sensation during urination. I felt something’s not right! My local physician recommended a few tests, including a PSAD and prostate biopsy.

Then, a series of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) screening tests revealed that PSA levels were significantly high. I also underwent a biopsy since I was concerned about prostate cancer. When I got the results, I was taken aback. They took 17 tissue samples, all of which were cancerous. My physician suggested that I should consult the best radiation oncologist in Kolkata. I knew I was in serious trouble!

I immediately scheduled an appointment with the oncologist at the Apollo Hospital, which is 65 miles from my hometown. It was told to me straight by my doctor. My only option was to undergo radiation therapy.

My oncologist was in agreement. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer that was high-risk. My radiation oncologist in Kolkata stated it was aggressive and fast-growing. This was a dangerous situation. I was in shock for the first ten days. I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that I have cancer.

The cancer specialist in Kolkata was able to complete my treatment in just eight weeks. I never missed a day of work when I was having radiation treatments. There was never a negative side effect. Every day, I travelled to the clinic and returned to work.

Because of the tumour's size, I was warned to expect chemotherapy to wipe up any remaining cancer cells. Thankfully, I didn't require it. My PSA levels have been undetectable for the past 19 check-ups, spanning the last two years. It's less than 0.1! I am now completely cured and have returned to the life I enjoyed before being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Although it took several months to stop thinking about the disease, I have put it behind now.
